ROCK CLIMBING VS BOULDERING 🧗

How was your day? Today will be a little bit different! I would like to share one interesting sport that maybe some of us were not really familiar with. Have you heard about Bouldering ? Rock climbing ? Maybe some of us know what is Rock climbing but, did you know Bouldering is quite similar with Rock climbing yet still have differences.

So, if you are new about both of these extreme sport, you might assume there's nothing much difference between boulder climbing and rock climbing. Both of the sport a little similar but, both were two different beasts! I think all of you interested to know more about bouldering and rock climbing, let's go explore more about both of the sports !! The information here referred from CLIMB That Rock.com





ROCK CLIMBING

Rock climbing can perform outdoor or in the gym and it necessary for the climbers to cross up various types of rock formations. The climbers must use climbing gear such as harnesses, ropes, cords, and webbing to avoid them from falling. Basically, the climbers aim to reach the top of the rock formation. The most important thing is rock climbing also known as the best workout because of the combination of endurance, stamina and strength training. BARE IN MIND, there are numerous climbing routes that require extra or opposite of strength, stamina, and endurance.

Bouldering is a structure of rock climbing that does not require any safety equipment such as harnesses or ropes. Boulder climber usually has climbing shoes to allow them to have good footing and chalk for their hands to get a good grip during climbing.






SO, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN BOULDERING AND ROCK CLIMBING?




#1 ENDURANCE

> Rock Climbing : Improve your heart rate and enhance cardio-respiratory. This sport also can enhance muscular endurance and stamina. Without you realize, by increasing the route or the difficulties, all of the components will be increase too!




> Bouldering : Bouldering wall was quite close with the ground and the bouldering climber will face a problem as the routes were short. But, despite the fact that the routes were short, the bouldering climber's endurance also can be tested because they need to force their body to the highest as they can.

#2 ADRENALINE RUSH

> Rock Climbing : Known as the sport that you can conquer your fear of climbing in high places and maybe even higher. You will feel the adrenaline gradually increase as you grasp where the equipment need to go in the rock to support your weight rather than being flipped.

> Bouldering : In bouldering, the wall was not really higher than 4 or 5 meters but, still the height can be frightening and you will feel hurry because you need to rely on the strength of your grip and footwork. 


#3 STRENGTH

> Rock Climbing :  Can enhance muscle throughout the body. You can feel the intense on your muscles especially in the beginning because you need to squeeze your muscles such as your arms, back, and shoulder. But, after being comfortable and maintaining your training to get a proper lean body for climbing, you can gradually stop using many muscles on arms or shoulder to pull up but, you can make your legs to push your body.

> Bouldering : The muscles group use in bouldering is similar to rock climbing which is arms, back and shoulder because you need to push to be more focus and apply dynamic movement that will take part in the upper body and improve the strength faster.

#4 PUZZLE SOLVING

> Rock Climbing : As you venture more different and challenging routes, you will use your brain more to create strategies for your next move. So, the more experience you are, the easiest you to make decision for the next move.

> Bouldering : Even though the route were short but, id doesn't mean you can take easy on it. The reason was bouldering usually face complex problem that requires you to be more focus on your moves and at the same time improving your problem-solving skills. 


#5 INJURIES

> Rock Climbing : Since rock climbing can be more extreme because you need to reach the top, you require to have padded mats, spotters, ropes and harnesses to make sure the climber safe. But, unfortunately you can also experience injuries such as sprains and strains if your landing was incorrect or because of falling. Besides that, your shoulders, arms, wrists, fingers, or legs also can experience sprains because of overuse muscles.

> Bouldering : As I mentioned before, bouldering climbers didn't use safety equipment, so, the possibility to get injuries was high and maybe severe. But, that can be avoided if the climbers use good and proper strategies on movement. The climbers also can be experienced to have injuries on the upper body, bruises, or cuts if they are not taking seriously on their movement. 



So, if you want to try rock climbing or bouldering you can start joining the games in gym since they have proper trainers that can guide you. Please DO NOT climb without proper training or incomplete equipment to avoid severe injuries. Both of the sport was the best workout ever, may you experience at least once in a lifetime. HEHE !! >_<

    1. Hi, thank you for the question. Being overweight should not be so problematic as to rule out bouldering, but obesity could be, mainly because of technical issues. Good footwork is very important for heavier climbers, but an obese person will find it much more difficult to see their feet and footholds.
