KORFBALL

HELLO !

How you doing mate ?! HEHE today I would like to share one sport that I have discovered a few days ago. This sport is quite new for me because I have never seen a mixed team sport. As you can see in the gif above, the goal post itself looks uncommon to compare with other look-like sport such as netball or basketball. The sport that I want to talk about is Korfball ! The information may be referred from the International Korfball Federation, Encyclopaedia Britannica, and Rules of Sport.com

Korfball is a Dutch game that was invented in 1901 by an Amsterdam schoolmaster, Nico Broekhyusen. The first debut of Korfball in 1902 held in the Netherland and fortunately Korfball has been presented to the international level which mainly in Europe by the 1970s.

Korfball is similar with netball and basketball. This game was devised as the game for both sexes or known as the world's only mixed sport. The objective of Korfball is to throw a ball through the opponent Korf from above to collect a point. Korfball is played in Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

KORFBALL

1. In the play, korfballers only directly oppose members of their own sexes and the games structured to dilute advantage of height, speed, and strength.

2. Korfball must be played by hand.

3. In the standard game, the team consists of eight players (4 males & 4 females).

4. The Korf (in Dutch) or basket are set in from the end of the playing area and enabling shots from 360 degrees.

5. The players assume either attack or defense roles.

6. After 2 goals, defenders and attackers switch - placing emphasis on the all-round skill. Each player should know how to defense, attack, shoot, and support team members.

7. A player may not try or take a shot if they have been 'defended'. This is when the opposite player position themselves in between the attacker and the net within an arm's length from them.

8. Korfball matches involved 2 halves and 10 minutes half break. The indoor game consists of 30 minutes halves each half and in the outdoor game consist of 35 minutes halves.

9. The game started with free throwing from the center.

10. The action almost entirely passing the ball from hand to hand and from one to zone to next.

11. Kicking, punching, handing off, and running with the balls are illegal.

12. If the games ended on equal point, the games are declared a draw.

EQUIPMENT

1. BALL

The ball must be around the number 5 type ball that has been approved by the IKF. The weight should be between 445 g and 475 g and have circumstances between 68 cm to 70.5 cm.

2. GOALPOST

The goalpost have supporting cylindrical basket (Korf) open at both end, with the rim of the basket 11.5 feet above the ground. The Korf is about 41 cm in circumference and 25.4 cm high.

I think you can imagine how the sport works right ? because netball and basketball was a common sport we have seen or play. So, if you have basic on both sport, there will be no difficulties in playing. I hope this sport can be introduced in Malaysia because it will be fun and interesting to play. I wish to play this sport if I do have a chance in the future.
