HOW TO STAY HYDRATED DURING RAMADHAN

Finally, Ramadan Kareem ! How was your Ramadhan so far? Is it going well? Well I hope your journey during fasting month will be going well and went smoothly 😊

Ramadan defined as the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which strict fasting is observed from dawn to sunset. We were not allowed to eat nor drink for 12 hours or maybe longer. I bet most of us felt hungry and thirsty especially during the day which we do lots of stuff such as working, going to school and, even working out. There were some tips about how you can stay hydrated during Ramadan I would like to share! Some of the information below from the Eygpt Independent blog.

TIPS 1: Plan your water intake

During fasting all we can do is thinking about water but, when it's time to break our fasts, please make sure we are getting enough water as in our priority list. Think about the easiest way to measure your water intake, if you preferred drink from the cup, then aim to drink at least 8 - 10 glasses throughout the evening. But, if you preferred to use the bottle, make sure you work on the measurement from the size. The great thing to do is try to drink one or two cups of water with dates before having the main meal. Eat a bit before performing your prayer, then have another cup that you will drink with your meal.

Evening = Divide your water intake until before you sleep
Sahoor = Divide your water intake gradually instead of drink a large amount in one go !

TIPS 2: Avoid salt sugary drinks

Before people break their fasts, they will make sure to find or makes something sweet, sugary like syrup or fizzy drinks which they feel their thirst will go away. It's may look good and delicious but, did you know, that actions may lead to release a huge amount of dehydration to your body? When there was a presence of extra sugar in your body, your body will try to release it through urination. So instead of consuming a sugary drink, you can drink lots of water and maybe fresh juices. After too much salt can result as bad! The best things to do when preparing your meal, minimize the amount of salt in cooking and cutting down the processed food as you can. You can try to use healthier types of salt like Celtic salt or Himalayan salt.

TIPS 3: Avoid caffeine

Well, besides the sugary and salty meals, there was one thing we will never miss in our daily life even though not in Ramadan. What is it? Yup, it's caffeine! If you are a heavy drinker of caffeine and want to try to stay hydrated during fasting, instead drink tea or strong coffee, you can try to have caffeine-free infusion instead. Another alternative was to drink green tea and white tea leaves. Some of us may not know that green tea has lots of benefits such as increased fat burning, reduce bad breath, prevent 2 types of diabetes and, help your brain functioning well which will help you to stay productive during Ramadan.

TIPS 4: Charge your hydration with fruits

Fruits already well-known as the best foods that contained lots of vitamins which help our body system. Fruits were usually not only high in water like watermelon is 92 percent water in it, but they are also high in fiber. Fiber works as the helper to make sure you will stay full and have minerals that your body needs. So, DO a quick survey of your favorite fruits and how they can help you in your fasting!

TIPS 5: Cold shower

Why a cold shower? A cold shower is one of the ways to rehydrate your body during the month of Ramadan. After a couple of days or weeks of fasting, you may see dehydration signs such as cracked lips, flushed skin, fatigue, increased body temperature followed by dizziness. If you are started to feel these symptoms, you should try to lower your body temperature in any way possible. Spend 5 - 10 minutes with the base of your head under direct cool water not with the ice! Keep doing this to keep your body cool and cozy during Ramadan.
